If you are getting sick of the same old story (hot and humid conditions with daily scattered storms and heavy downpours), don't worry because a change in the weather pattern is coming! We just have to wait a few days. A dominant surface high pressure system on the East Coast is bringing warm juicy return-flow air from the Gulf of Mexico. This allows for a very unstable set-up to occur in which storms can blossom. The second ingredient is the jet stream--or upper level winds-- are blowing right on top of the Stateline allowing for a steering pattern for where the storms will go. This is why we are seeing many storms start in Iowa and Minnesota and quickly move into our area. This set up is called a "Ring of Fire" pattern and will continue through late Wednesday night.

Active weather pattern through late Wednesday |
By Thursday we see a dip in the jet stream, pushing the anomalously hot conditions westward and bringing in cooler, drier Canadian air into our area. This will knock our temperatures back into more seasonable conditions and feel much more comfortable. - MT

Calmer weather pattern arrives mid-Thursday |
