Summer officially begins Friday and looking at the forecast we'll have some 'summer-like' heat arriving just in time. A developing low pressure system off the Pacific Northwest will cause a buckle in the jet stream with a trough of low pressure sliding down the west coast and a ridge of high pressure building across the middle of the country. The weather this weekend will depend on where exactly and just how far north the jet stream will travel.
If we were to believe the GFS Model this weekend would be mainly rain free, but very hot and humid. The GFS places the ridge of high pressure further north across the Midwest keeping the active storm track through Minnesota and Wisconsin. However, if we were to believe the European Model then the jet stream would remain fairly close putting Iowa, Minnesota, Northern Illinois and Wisconsin in line for thunderstorms through early next week. If this scenario were to pan out temperatures over the weekend would be greatly reduced due to the rain and cloud cover. These two models have been fairly consistent with their forecasts the past couple of days but unfortunately not very consistent with each other. Once the low off the west coast moves onshore we'll likely begin to have a better idea of what will happen this weekend. Either way, it does look like the humidity will be the rise with dew points in the upper 60s and low 70s.
