Friday morning weather update

Flood Advisory issued for southern Lee and southern DeKalb counties until 4pm

(12:11:32 PM) nwsbot: Local Storm Report by NWS LOT: Sublette [Lee Co, IL] cocorahs reports HEAVY RAIN of M1.02 INCH at 12:00 PM CDT -- rainfall in 45 minutes.

Additional showers and thunderstorms will be likely through the afternoon as the strongest part of Friday morning's storms is now moving into Chicago.  With the clouds lingering around instability will remain limited but is quickly building where the clouds are beginning to thin out back west.  Thunderstorm development currently in the northern Plains will need to be watched going through the afternoon and evening.  That activity could move back into the Stateline later tonight or early Saturday morning.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southern Lee and DeKalb counties until 12:15pm

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms extends from Woodstock southwest through Genoa to Sycamore and down towards Steward.  A Severe Thunderstorm Warning continues for northern Lee, Ogle and DeKalb counties until 11:30am.

(10:23:41 AM) nwsbot: Local Storm Report by NWS LOT: Rockford [Winnebago Co, IL] broadcast media reports HAIL of pea size (M0.25 INCH) at 10:19 AM CDT -- relayed by wtvo

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Winnebago, Boone, Ogle and DeKalb counties until 11:15 am.  A strong line of thunderstorms extends from Roscoe to Rockford down through Oregon.  This line is capable of producing very heavy rainfall, wind gusts near 60 mph and pea to nickel sized hail.

(9:58:14 AM) nwsbot: Local Storm Report by NWS DVN: 2 WNW Freeport [Stephenson Co, IL] trained spotter reports HAIL of pea size (M0.25 INCH) at 09:57 AM CDT --

Thunderstorms continue to move into southern Wisconsin and extreme northwest Illinois.  Right now the only warnings out are for the southern edge of the storm in Iowa.  As this line moves into a little more of a stable air mass it has shown some signs of weakening, however, heavy rain and stronger wind gusts near 50-55 mph will be possible.  The leading edge of the storm is near Monroe, Winslow, Stockton and Elizabeth.  As just mentioned, there is a slight cap across N. IL which has allowed the storms to slightly weaken but moisture remains fairly abundant across the area and this could lead to some very heavy rain and possible flooding.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Green County has been allowed to expire

Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Carroll, Whiteside, Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb and McHenry counties until 1pm.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Green County until 9am.

7:30am Update: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Green County until 10am.  A line of storms will move into southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa through 9am and could affect parts of southern Wisconsin and northwest Illinois between 9am and 10am.  This line is moving very slowly to the southeast - only around 25-30 mph.  This could lead to some very heavy rainfall in a short amount of time.  Flash Flood Warnings have been issued right near the Iowa/Wisconsin border.

A strong line of thunderstorms continue to dive southeast into Wisconsin and northeast Iowa early this morning.  Additional thunderstorms have been forming near Decorah, IA but lifting northeast on the nose of the low level jet.

Skies are starting off quiet this morning but if the line of storms to the northwest hold together they could affect us after 9am/10am this morning.  Also, if the strength of the line is maintained then heavy rain and strong winds would be the primary threats.  Once this storm complex passes through early afternoon thunderstorm activity should remain low into the evening.  If the thunderstorms weaken and don't make it this far south then additional thunderstorm activity will be likely this afternoon due to the outflow boundaries from the current thunderstorms.
