To quote a good friend at the Chicago National Weather Service: 'Mother Nature isn't feeling well'. While the next couple of days look GREAT in the Stateline another blocking/backed up pattern may develop over the weekend and into next week.
A dip, or trough in the jet stream is in place early this morning but a building ridge out west will nose its way closer to the Great Lakes during the start of the weekend. This will keep active storms to the north and allow temperatures to climb back above average. This ridge, however, looks to break down as low pressure develops out east and begins to retrograde, or move back west, Sunday and Monday. It's an interesting feature the weather models are trying to develop because it's typically not something we would see in the middle of July; especially a cutoff low moving from the east coast all the back into the Midwest. While it doesn't appear much moisture will
be present with the low, it could bring extra cloud cover which may keep temperatures down a bit. Another possible scenario with the low is that it really doesn't develop into much at all with the end result not having much of an impact on the weather here.
It does, however, look like another ridge (or blocking pattern) will move into the southeast pushing more moisture northward by Tuesday and Wednesday. This may lead to some pop up 'air mass' type thunderstorms but temperatures could very well rise back into the low 90s. Time will tell just what the weather pattern will bring towards the third week in July. Until then, just enjoy the nice weather we've got for the next couple of days. In the meantime, maybe Mother Nature should take some Maalox.
