Well, if you think it's been unseasonably cool for this time of year, you'd be correct! Average high temperatures for early July usually are in the mid 80s, but today we will barely get to the mid 70s! This is all thanks to a vigorous trough in the Eastern United States. The jet stream divides air masses and is ushering down cool, Canadian air, while on the west coast, an intense ridge is allowing for extremely hot conditions to emanate from Central America with 128° temperatures recorded in Death Valley, California two days in a row last weekend.
But, changes are coming to this jet stream pattern. It will buckle later this weekend and the cool air will push back into Canada while we will see some heat push into the Stateline. I'm not saying we're going to be seeing 128° temps like they saw in California, but we will see more seasonable conditions with afternoon highs pushing near 90° this upcoming weekend. - MT
