We kick off October with below normal temperatures in the low 60's this week, but warmth was the trend for us in September. This September was the 3rd warmest on record for the Rockford area since 1905. The average temperature (average of highs and lows each day) was 69.1° while the record warmest September was 69.9° in 1931.
Our average high was 4 degrees warmer than normal at 79.4° and the average low was 6.3 degrees warmer at 58.7°. In terms of rainfall totals, we weren't too far off. Rockford racked up 3.28" of rain, just a 0.07" deficit.
A persistent ridge of high pressure was set up over the Midwest. This allowed temperatures to warm while the more active weather stayed to the south and north closer to the more active portions of the jet stream.
