For the past week and a half the Stateline has seen relatively quiet weather. An 'atmospheric traffic jam' last week kept a broken record forecast going for the Midwest with a high pressure system located north of the Great Lakes, and a strong closed low pressure to the south east. With the pattern now shifting we do see some changes coming our way.
The clouds today will gradually decrease across the area becoming more partly sunny with light winds in place as high pressure builds in. A weak cool front will pass this evening, but we won't really see a change in temperatures. However, with a wind shift tonight dry air works into the area, and this will help keep skies partly cloudy tomorrow with highs in the low 70's. Clouds increase again into Thursday with an approaching cold front, highs look to get into the low 70's in the afternoon before rain moves in. Dew points will rise into the 60's so it will feel muggy before the rain moves in. Dry air arrives over night, creating a 'dry slot' in the system, which will help to bring an end to the rain early Friday. The clouds stick around Friday with highs struggling to get to 60°. Overall on Thursday we will see showers with the cold front, but you might also hear a few rumbles of thunder. Rain totals don't look to be too high, only about a quarter to half inch of rain will fall.
There's good news though for those who like warmer temperatures. A strong low pressure system brings the active portion on the jet stream north of us, so we stay dry through the weekend with temperatures climbing into the upper 70's by Monday.
