Take a look at the pattern since October 4th. We have climbed up a hill, went back down, and now we are in the process of climbing back up again this weekend. This is something very typical of October. So if you thought it was abnormally warm last week when we saw 70's, you were right. It was roughly 10 degrees above average for a stretch of 3 days. However, that is not unusual for this time of the year. Then, we saw a cold front move through, and temperatures evened themselves out by only reaching the lower 60's yesterday. Averaging the past 6 days and the expected highs today and tomorrow, you get a temperatures of 69.5F. The average high for this stretch is between 65F and 68F. So, we are slightly above average in terms of high temperatures for this stretch of 8 days, but not by much.
The takeaway point here is that while it may have seemed warm last week and it will seem warm again tomorrow, October tends to have stretches like these. Then, cold fronts usually come through and even out our temperatures as colder air tries overtaking the region. That will be the case later next week and next weekend as a strong cold front brings in much colder air. We will see highs in the 50's next Friday and next weekend and lows possibly in the 30's. It is not out of the realm of possibility to see our first frost event next weekend as well as one of the forecast models is suggesting lows on Saturday morning to drop between 30 and 35 degrees.
Stay tuned to find out more about that impending cold snap!
