Heat waves and heavy rainfall tend to go hand-in-hand, and the beginning and end of our heat wave from this weekend was no exception. But there have been quite a few days so far in June that have experienced excessive rainfall. Just within last week alone, there were three (3) days where rainfall totals added up to over 1.50 inches. That has only happened two other times in Rockford's history - June 1967 and October 1969. The morning of Friday, June 15th, record rain fell with the airport receiving 2.59 inches.
The rainfall Monday night didn't technically break any daily rainfall records, mostly because the heavy rain fell north of the airport, but it did add up to 1.98 inches. Another 0.84 inches of rain fell Tuesday morning. Our total precipitation for the month of June is now over nine inches, putting us nearly 6.3 inches above average!
Light rain showers are in the forecast for Tuesday evening, and for the end of the week, but heavy rainfall is not expected.
