Seasonable temperatures will start off the week as high pressure moves from the central Plains late Sunday night into central Illinois Monday afternoon. This will keep skies mostly sunny through much of the day with temperatures warming into the upper 70's.
A strong ridge of high pressure over the southwestern part of the country will begin to shift east Tuesday, moving into the Midwest by Wednesday afternoon. Several upper level disturbances will move along the outer edge of the ridge bringing a chance for scattered thunderstorms Wednesday evening, but lasting through the start of the weekend.
A hot and humid air mass will build underneath the ridge of high pressure for the central/southern Plains and Southwest with temperatures expected to reach the middle to upper 90's, to even near the triple digit mark by the middle of the week.
Each upper level disturbance that moves over top the ridge of high pressure will use the energy from the heat to allow scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop. And with the placement of the winds within the jet stream moving overhead, it could set up the pattern for several rounds of thunderstorms to move through the Midwest and Great Lakes, with Thursday, Friday and Saturday looking to be the most likely days for thunderstorm activity.
