You can't ask for a better start to Meteorological Summer than this, sunshine and temperatures in the low 80's. Rockford had a high of 81°, just a little warmer than the average for the start of Meteorological Summer here, which is 77°. Northeasterly winds brought warm, but less humid conditions this afternoon, and we keep it for the evening!
Temperatures cool off quickly, staying around 70° for most of the evening before cooling to around 60° by 10pm. We'll then dip to the low 50's overnight, all while keeping clear skies.
That dry air will keep moving in as we head into Saturday, which will keep the skies clear and bring temperatures to around 80° during the afternoon, also while keeping the humidity low.
However, you'll want to enjoy the nice weather while you can, because a trough will move in from the west and pull some moisture into our area, ahead of a cold front. The front moves in late Saturday evening, between 9-10pm, and will bring some showers into the Stateline, some of which will produce some heavy rain. The showers will move out after midnight.
Something to keep in mind is that we had quite a bit of rain from the remnants of Alberto on Wednesday, which brought some flooding to a few areas out in McHenry county, specifically Woodstock and Marengo. This next round of rain will add on to the rainfall that caused the flooding, so definitely stay cautious if you live in these areas.
Not to mention, rain's not exactly a priority right now, considering we were above average for the month of May. Most locations picked up half an inch to 1 inch above average, with DeKalb seeing the most rain this month coming in at nearly 5 inches.
However, after the showers late Saturday evening, we'll be seeing some dry weather for the next few days after, enjoying some sunshine with mild temperatures and low humidity through the start of the work week.
