The cold front out west ended up pushing more clouds into our area as winds increased in the upper-levels of the atmosphere. Unfortunately, that same cold front will be moving into our area this evening, bringing some showers and thunderstorms. We are under a Marginal Risk for Severe Weather this evening.
However, the severity for our area will stay low. A few strong wind gusts will be possible with that frontal boundary in play, but otherwise we'll just see some heavy rain showers from this system. The only area that may deal with some flooding is McHenry County, specifically near Woodstock and Marengo, as those areas dealt with flooding from Alberto, so keep this in mind if you live near those areas.
The front will move in from the west around 7pm, but around 9pm will be the peak time for showers and thunderstorms in the Stateline area. By 10pm, the showers and storms will be mainly over the eastern half of the viewing area, mainly Boone, McHenry, Walworth, Dekalb, and some lingering rain in east Winnebago county.
Once we reach midnight, everything will be gone, and we'll dry cool, dry air move in from the northeast for the overnight as winds will turn northeasterly behind the low. This will clear our skies and bring low humidity back to the area, with cooler temperatures in the mid 50's during the night. A high pressure system will move in from the plains to assist on Sunday.
The low will linger to the east on Sunday, so scattered cloud cover will be the result, with some sunshine and temperatures in the upper 60's during the afternoon. That cool air inflow will continue through the overnight Sunday night, and bring some chilly temperatures for some in the upper 40's.
However, on Monday that high pressure system will take over, allowing some warmer air to filter back into our area and our skies to clear, so it's looking to be a nice start to the work week.
Rain chances return Tuesday evening, with thunderstorms Wednesday evening, some of which may be on the strong side.
After Wednesday, the weather stabilizes again, with sunshine for Thursday into the weekend.
