Late Week Heat Could Help Fuel Weekend Storms

The active and rainy pattern from this past weekend settles down a little for the start of the week, bringing only isolated shower and thunderstorm chances through Tuesday.  High pressure then moves in which will bring back the sunshine Wednesday and Thursday.

The potential for another active and stormy pattern looms towards the end of the week and weekend, but this may come with a little more summer heat.  A ridge of high pressure is expected to build over much of the south, pushing the jet stream northward into the Plains and Midwest.  Triple digit heat will be possible later this week for the south-central Plains and Southwest, and some of that heat could spread into northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin as early as Friday.  It won't be that warm, but highs back in the 90's are very well possible through early next week.  It all depends on the placement of the jet stream.

As the jet stream lifts north Thursday, Friday and Saturday storm systems will move along the outer edges bringing thunderstorms to parts of the Plains and Midwest.  If the jet stream stalls close to the Stateline our storm threat will increase during that time.  By late Saturday, Sunday and Monday it looks like the jet stream will push far enough north to bring down the storm potential, but increase the heat.  High temperatures could very well reach the low to mid 90's during that time.

If the jet stream, however, doesn't make it that far north then it'll increase our chance for thunderstorms and bring temperatures down some for the weekend.  Either way it looks like the stormy pattern will return - a pattern very typical of summer!
