Brief warmup before winter returns with frequent snow chances this week

The week will start on a milder note with temperatures reaching into the low 40s Monday and mid 40s Tuesday. It will feel a bit cooler with a breezy Southwest wind on Monday, but we will remain dry. Tuesday will feature a few slim chances for rain, especially early in the morning. Following a stronger cold front Tuesday evening, temperatures will turn back to the 20s Wednesday and Thursday with any lingering moisture resulting in snow chances.

The passing low pressure system responsible for that cold front will be centered North and East of the area Tuesday, limiting overall precipitation chances. With milder air in place Monday night, initial precipitation will come down in the form of pockets of light or steady rain showers into Tuesday morning.

By Tuesday night, colder air will begin wrapping in behind the developing low pressure. This will allow for light precipitation to come down as a mix of rain and snow late Tuesday night. Moisture will still be limited, so any pockets of wintry mix we see will be light and scattered in nature. Wednesday morning and afternoon may feature some gusty snow showers, similar to how Saturday's setup was with strong Northwest winds.

The second half of the week will feature repeated surges of cold, arctic air with brief warmer pockets. Most afternoon highs will be in the low to mid-20s Wednesday through Sunday, except for a brief day back in the low 30s on Friday. This pattern also favors frequent chances for light snow showers. Best chances look to be Wednesday and then again Thursday night through Saturday.
