Rain, unseasonably warm air headlines Thursday's forecast

Rain and unseasonably warm temperatures will be the main headlines for your Thursday.

The first half of the day remains dry, though we can expect cloud cover to thicken up as system #1 moves out of the southern plains. Light showers will arrive after midday, so around 1PM-2PM.

It won't be until the late-afternoon and early-evening hours (3PM-7PM) when the potential for steady, heavy rain slides in. Included will be the chance for an isolated non-severe thunderstorm. Once the main line pushes to our northeast, rain chances turn more scattered for the first half of the night.

Similar to what we talked about yesterday, rain totals should end up in the .25" to .50" range.

With the track of the low sliding it into eastern Iowa, winds will be out of the southeast. This will make for a unseasonably warm afternoon with highs in the low 50s. Compared to early-January standards, today's high of 52° lands 23° above-average.

Both today's storm system and the one scheduled for Saturday will play a big role into the cooldown we see this weekend. Highs remain unseasonably mild in the low 40s Friday, but then drop into the upper 20s and low 30s for Saturday and Sunday.
