It was a little bit of a cloudy start Monday morning, but skies cleared nicely allowing the sun to shine bright and temperatures to warm well above average. Afternoon temperatures reached the low to mid 40s, with Rockford's high reaching 45 degrees. The average high should be in the upper 20s.
Clear skies will continue for the rest of Monday evening which will allow temperatures to dip into the low 30s, with a few spots possibly falling into the upper 20s before Midnight. Cloud cover will be on the increase through the night as southwest winds pick up, gusting around 25 mph for the start of Tuesday. This will help bring temperatures back into the mid and upper 30s.
Skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy as afternoon temperatures warm into the upper 40s. If we end up with a little more sunshine, it's possible temperatures could climb into the low 50s! But big changes will occur beginning Tuesday night following a strong cold front from the north. That front will sweep across the western Great Lakes, dropping temperatures from the 40s during the afternoon down into the 20s at the start of Wednesday.
Northwest winds will also be on the increase, at times gusting close to 35 mph throughout the afternoon. This will make the mid-20s feel more like the single digits! Brrrr! To go along with the push of colder air there could also be a few wind-whipped flurries and/or light snow showers during the first half of the day. The cold will stick around through the rest of the week with just a little bit of a warm-up Friday and then quite the chill settling in for the weekend.
