Rain, wintry mix, and wet snow all on the table in the coming days

An active weather pattern will start up Thursday as system #1 ejects out of the plains.

The first half of Thursday will be dry. Come the late-afternoon hours, the surface low will lift into eastern Iowa. This will allow the chance for rain, potentially steady and heavy, to overspread the area. Highs will end up unseasonably warm, peaking in the upper 40s. Scattered showers will continue into Thursday night, drying out by Friday morning.

In the end, rainfall totals will end up in the .25" to .75" range. On the backside of system #1, conditions dry out with skies turning partly cloudy for Friday afternoon. High temperatures won't be as warm but they stay mild in the low 40s.

System #2 will then lift out of the southern plains and into the Ohio Valley. As we talked about Tuesday, the southeasterly shift in system #2's track will give us a better shot at a rain/snow mix Saturday morning, with a shift to wet snow as we approach midday. It's still too early to talk numbers, but be aware that some slushy travel will be on the table. Winds are also expected to increase which will help drag colder air into the Stateline. This will leave afternoon highs in the low 30s both Saturday and Sunday.
