Illinois farmers getting in the fields

Found this article interesting.  Thought I would share this with all of you:

USDA reports U.S. farmers generally made solid corn planting progress over the past week and widespread planting is underway for soybeans.


As of Sunday, 53% of the U.S. corn crop is planted, compared to 28% a week ago, 12% a year ago, and the five year average of 27% with Illinois at 79%, Missouri at 75%, and Indiana 70% complete. 15% of the crop has emerged, compared to 9% last week, 4% last year, and 6% on average.


For soybeans, 12% is planted, compared to 6% a week ago, 2% a year ago, and 5% on average, with Mississippi the furthest along at 59%.


54% of winter wheat has headed, compared to 42% last week, 29% last year, and the five year average of 24%. 64% of the winter wheat crop is rated good to excellent, a 1% improvement on the week and 30% more than this time last year.


74% of spring wheat is planted, compared to 57% a week ago, 9% a year ago, and 32% on average. 30% of spring wheat has emerged, up from the 18% last week, 3% last year, and 8% for the five year average.
