Sunday morning update

2:00 pm Update:  An outflow boundary has produced storms south of I-80 early this afternoon.  These storms are moving east into a fairly unstable air mass where temperatures are in the 80s and dew points are in the 70s!  Currently, this is where the warm front lies.  Further north, temperatures are in the low 60s with dew points in the 50s.  A new Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for counties south of I-80; nothing has been issued for the immediate viewing area.  There are a few additional showers/storms trying to developing across the area and this will likely be the case through the afternoon.

12:30 pm Update:  That outflow boundary I talked about earlier looks to have fired off some new convection in northern DeKalb county - moving northeast.  Watch out for heavy rain and possibly small hail; should it grow a little more in strength.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Carroll and Whiteside counties has been cancelled

Thunderstorms producing heavy rain and hail moved through parts of southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois this morning.  The heaviest of the storm activity has now moved east of the area with strong storms extending from southeast Wisconsin southward through McHenry and Kane counties.  Reports of pea to nickel sized hail were common with some of the storms as they moved through.

There appears to be an outflow boundary from the storms in southwest Wisconsin that has been popping up a few additional showers/storms across northwest Illinois, but as they move northeast they are weakening.

Things will probably remain quiet for a little while, with the exception of areas east of I-39 and in southern Wisconsin.  With a cold front still forecast to move through later today the storm threat will continue through tonight, although the atmosphere may be a little worked over from the activity from this morning.  Precipitable water values remain high across the area giving any storms that do develop later today enough moisture to work with to produce heavy rainfall.  Conditions will be monitored throughout the day and updates provided here.

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for all northern Illinois counties from today until Monday morning.
