The latest Drought Monitor was released Thursday afternoon and it shows some improvement across the nation.
Rainfall from last weekend has helped with the abnormally dry conditions that were developing across central Illinois and northern Indiana as well as in the upper Midwest. Recent rain in Texas the past couple months has really made a dent in the extreme drought across east Texas while in the west the dry weather continues. A cut-off low in the south may have helped a little with that lately. Conditions, for the most part, remain the same in the west and southwest although it would be nice to get some rain in that direction. A fairly dry winter hasn't helped the residents in California as they depend on the snow melt from the mountains in the spring.
Looking ahead in the next 7 days and other than a few scattered showers tonight and Saturday, rainfall chances remain limited as there appears to be no major storm systesms in the forecast.
