Brief fall-like cool down, humidity and storm chances return this weekend

After Wednesday afternoon's cold front and scattered thunderstorms, we will quickly clear out of moisture heading through the night. We are back to the mid-60s overnight and only rebound to the mid-70s tomorrow under a dry but mostly cloudy sky. Northerly wind will keep humidity and warmth away, leading to the high only reaching about 10 degrees below average! The fall-like stretch will be short-lived as we return near 80-degrees Friday and low 80s this weekend.

The quick return to near and above average patterns will be characterized by a flip of the upper levels. An upper level ridge of high pressure will build in across the Southern Plains, keeping most of the heat and humidity at bay temporarily. But several waves will traverse along the edge of that ridge, bringing scattered storm chances our way Saturday through Monday.

Coverage does not look like it will be a washout any of those days, but at least scattered activity makes a return starting Friday night. Any storm that develops could bring heavy rainfall given the abundance of moisture there will be in the atmosphere at that time.

We will see heat and humidity build back in starting Tuesday of next week. Temperatures are likely to push the 90-degree mark with dew points well into the 70s. This would push daily heat index values into the triple digits at times starting mid-next week. Within this heat and humidity, isolated thunderstorms will also be possible almost every day.
