More sunshine Monday, air quality to slowly improve

It's hard to believe it has been one year since a round of slow-moving thunderstorms produced significant rainfall across far northern Illinois. Specifically, the city of Rockford where a whopping 4" to 6" fell, resulting in significant flash flooding.

Thankfully, that isn't the case this time around as we have high pressure close by. This means more sun is on the table for today as well as comfortably warm conditions with highs in the mid 80s.

Air Quality-wise, that should slowly improve as this most recent plume of wildfire smokes pushes to our east into the Great Lakes. Again, our three counties up in Wisconsin (Green, Rock, and Walworth) are under an Air Quality Alert until noon.

In fact, we won't have to deal with rain chances until Wednesday. Tuesday remains dry with partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 80s. Tuesday does come with a bit more humidity as dew point temperatures will be hovering around 70°. This will place our heat index values in the low 90s.
