After the morning round of thunderstorms, conditions remained quite unfavorable for an afternoon round to develop. This allowed temperatures to return to the mid-80s with a bit more humidity. We have stayed dry locally but will be watching this next cluster of storms across Nebraska into Western Iowa as they track our direction late tonight.

We will likely stay dry through the evening as temperatures only fall to the upper 60s. The storms out to the West will slide toward us in a weakening state. The best chance for any strong to severe storms will be primarily SW of Rockford after 12AM. Any strong storms we see will likely only last for a couple hours as the bulk of that wave moves into Central Illinois before dawn. Main threats with any strong or severe storms will be with gusty winds and heavy rain.

Scattered showers and an isolated rumble of thunder will then linger into Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will remain in the 70s through the daytime under the increased cloud cover. Shower coverage will gradually diminish through the evening, giving way to a clearer night heading into Monday morning.

Looking ahead to the middle of the week, an oppressively hot and humid air mass will likely settle in over the area starting on Tuesday. Afternoon high temperatures will reach near 90° by Wednesday with dew points pushing the mid to upper-70s. This would place heat indices (feels like temperatures) into the triple digits. The most oppressive days look to be on Wednesday and Thursday, when we will likely see some form of a heat alert issued for areas of the Stateline.
