It was a comfortable September afternoon as high temperatures warmed into the mid and upper 70s. Rockford's high reached 76 degrees, just two degrees away from the average high of 78. Sunshine kicked off the morning, but clouds have been on the increase over the last few hours as a weak upper-level low circulates to our northwest.
Dry air in place will limit the eastward progress of the incoming moisture, likely leaving the Stateline with a mostly cloudy sky through the night. This, along with a light southerly wind, will help keep temperatures in the low 50s.
The dry air will eventually break which will lead to a slow increase in moisture Wednesday morning. This could lead to a few sprinkles, or perhaps a very brief light shower, during that time. A few sprinkles may also be found throughout the first half of the day Wednesday. With more of a sun/cloud mix through the afternoon temperatures will warm into the upper 70s, with a few spots possibly reaching 80 degrees. The last time Rockford reached a high temperature of 80 (or higher) was back on the 20th of August with a high of 81.
80-degree warmth will be felt a plenty over the next several days as a strong ridge of high pressure builds across the middle of the country, and into central Canada. This will allow temperatures to climb through the 80s, possibly even close to 90 degrees, as we near the weekend. Thankfully, dew point temperatures remain in check with the return of the heat. This will help with humidity heading into the weekend.
