Thursday was the first time since August 20th that Rockford's high reached 80 degrees or higher, and we have more late-summer heat on the way through the weekend. An upper level ridge of high pressure will force an exceedingly warm air mass our direction, giving us a prolonged trend of above average temperatures.

Average for this time of year is closer to the mid-70s, but we will see many days with highs pushing the mid to upper 80s. Every day for the next week features a forecast high between 86-88°. Overnight lows will be closer to the mid-60s.

Aside from a few spotty thunderstorms Friday night into Saturday morning, rain chances are few and far between much of this week. Some in the Stateline could remain completely dry through at least early next week. Higher rain totals may be possible within those previously mentioned thunderstorms, but any rain would be scattered in nature.

The lack of rainfall paired with this increase in warmth could redevelop some of the drought conditions across parts of the Stateline. Here in Rockford, we are already over 1.3" shy from average rainfall through the first 11 days of September. Rockford has only seen only 21.65" of rainfall, over 6.5" below average through today's date. With little widespread rainfall on the way this week, we could increase that gap between accumulated rainfall and where we should be.
