Scattered thunderstorm potential increases overnight

While we will stay dry and mild for Friday night football games this evening, thunderstorm chances will be on the rise overnight. This activity currently situated across Northwestern Wisconsin and Eastern Minnesota will pull our direction after midnight.

Scattered thunderstorms will be possible beginning as early as 1-2AM for Northwestern parts of the Stateline, filtering in for others through the early morning hours of Saturday. Heavy rain and a few instances of gusty winds or hail may be possible mainly after 4-5AM. The exact location of where this narrow band of rain and storms ends up is still quite a bit uncertain, but the highest confidence on that heavy rain threat would be along and East of a line from Monroe to Dixon.

If thunderstorms back-build and move across the same areas over and over again, we could see a few locations pick up a quick inch or two of rainfall. Our recent dry soils should be able to soak up a lot of that rain, unless it comes in a matter of only a few hours. A low-end risk for flash flooding may be possible, especially areas along and East of the line previously mentioned.

There is also a risk for a few stronger storms during this window, mainly into the morning hours of Saturday. A few isolated storms may develop along outflow boundaries during the afternoon as well. Any storms may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail but would be less than 10% in coverage.

Isolated storms may be possible during the afternoon, but most will remain dry under a slowly decreasing cloud cover. Where clouds linger longer, temperatures may remain stuck in the upper 70s or low 80s. Where we clear out quicker, high temperatures may end up in the mid-80s once again.
