NOAA's National Climatic Data Center released the new climate normals for the U.S. this month. This is done to keep our climate data updated to World Meteorological Organization standards. The new average temperatures are from the period 1981 to 2010, and replace the old set of normals from 1971 to 2000.
The new 30-year data period is approximately 0.5 degrees F warmer than the old one. This is mainly because the 2000s were 1.5 F warmer than the 1970s they replaced. Man-made climate change believers say this is further evidence of global warming (click here for more). Man-made climate change skeptics counter that the world has seen no appreciable warming since 1998 (click here for more).
The new daily/monthly climate normals for Rockford and other U.S. cities will be released in January 2012.
