This very day back in 1936 was the hottest day in the history of temperature record-keeping in Rockford. The mercury climbed to 112 degrees on July 14, 1936!
This came in the midst of a 9-day stretch of 100-degree or higher temperatures for Rockford. July 6th through the 14th of that year featured highs at the century mark or above. Incredibly, July 16th, 17th, and 26th were all 100 degrees or hotter, as were August 9th, 18th, and 22nd! Add it all up, and 15 days in 1936 made it into the triple digits!
