The comfortable weather will last another day or so before the building ridge out west expands east into the Midwest by this weekend. Temperatures are expected to rise into the upper 80s and possibly lower 90s by Sunday afternoon.
The lack of any sufficient rainfall lately will likely aid in the developing warmth for this weekend. The month of May fell two inches shy of what the total monthly precipitation should be. So far in June, we've only added 0.08" to that. While we've still got a lot of this month to go rainfall amounts for the next week look anything but stellar. Sometimes a dry spring can lead to a dry and hot summer where heatwaves are more common because a dry ground is able to heat up more efficiently than a ground that has moisture in it. It's still a little early in the season but given the fact that May was so dry there may be some concern that this dry spell will continue; at least for the next week and a half.
