Scanning for Rain

It was another hot dry day for the Stateline on Sunday with the temperature at the Rockford airport surpassing 90 degrees once again. There was a strong breeze from the south gusting above 30 mph in the afternoon, and that provided a bit of a cooling effect making it seem not quite so hot. It will be mostly clear this evening, but clouds will increase later on tonight as as cool front approaches from the northwest later tonight. With warm air in place ahead of the front, the overnight low will be warm dropping to just below 70 degrees by daybreak. The font will continue it's eastward progress on Monday, and showers and thunderstorms will be likely during the morning, and scattered during the afternoon. It will be mostly cloudy and not as warm on Monday with highs in the middle 80's. Rain is needed because of the extended recent dry spell, but not much is expected with the system as it passes through. Estimates range from a few hundredths of an inch to around a third of an inch in most cases.  However, the nature of warm season thunderstorms tend to be scattered with some areas getting nothing, and other picking up amounts exceeding half an inch. the front will push off the east on Monday night, skies will clear, the winds will switch to the northwest, and wit will be cooler with lows around 60 degrees.

A bubble of Canadian high pressure will take control of area weather on Tuesday, and it will be sunny, cooler, and less humid than Monday.  The wind will be from the north to northwest at 10 to 15 mph, and the high temperature will be a comfortable 76 degrees.  Tuesday night will be clear an cool with a low around 50 degrees.  In fact, some areas will likely drop into the upper 40's.

On Wednesday the fabulous weather will continue with high pressure sitting right over the area.  Expect full sunshine and blue skies with light winds, and an afternoon high around 78 degrees.  It will remain clear overnight on Wednesday night with a low in the middle 50's as winds become light southeast.

On Thursday the center of the high will move into southeastern Canada, but it will ridge back into the midwest.  Skies will be mostly sunny, and it will be a little warmer with afternoon temperatures touching on 80 degrees with a light southeast wind.  Temperatures will continue to moderate on Thursday night with a low in the low 60's.

Next weekend will be very warm once again with increasing amounts of humidity.  High temperatures will be in the upper 80's, and possibly as high as 90 degrees.  A new cool front will approach from the northwest on Sunday, skies will become partly cloudy, and there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms.
