Sub-zero wind chills return Thursday morning

Afternoon highs finally broke the 30° mark Tuesday, and we'll see temperatures continue to climb today. But don't expect that to be the norm. A low pressure system sliding to our north will sweep a pair of cold fronts through the region.

Blustery winds, and even a few wind-shipped snow showers will accompany the 2nd frontal passage, with winds climbing towards 50 mph. For that reason, the entire area will be under a Wind Advisory from 2PM-12AM. Secure inflatable and light-weighted Christmas decor prior to leaving. Isolated power outages may result as well.

Snow chances come to a close an hour or two after sunset, though strong winds continue. Overnight, temperatures and wind chills plummet, leaving us flirting with the upper single-digits by Thursday morning. Be sure to make it a priority to BUNDLE UP in layers before stepping out.

Sunshine returns Thursday, though bitterly cold conditions remain. With winds remaining somewhat windy out of the northwest, expect afternoon highs to fall short of the mid-20s.

Folks, this is unseasonably cold compared to early-December standards and even colder than Rockford's coldest point in the calendar year which is in mid to late January. Expect this shot of cold air to linger into Friday before a significant warming trend slides in over the upcoming weekend.
