Well, if you were a big fan of yesterday like I was, I have great news for you. Today calls for even warmer temperatures as southwest flow remains in place ahead of our next storm system.
Just to put into perspective how warm Rockford will be, our record high for December 8th is 60°. While it's highly unlikely for us to touch that mark, we'll get close as afternoon highs reach the mid 50s. If there was a day to put up the Christmas lights, today would be that day! This all happening under a partly cloudy sky. Cloud cover increases into tonight as the first of two low pressure systems lifts into Minnesota and Wisconsin.
The secondary low aims to track to our south, leaving us mainly dry into Monday morning. However, we may see enough moisture with said cloud cover for a few spotty sprinkles or showers. Any chance for rain comes to a close rather quickly, leaving us dry and breezy for Monday's remaining hours.
A pair of cold fronts then come through, one Monday morning and then a second on Wednesday. Both of which will play a role into allowing another chunk of Arctic air to sink down into the U.S. Locally, highs stay above average for Monday, peaking in the upper 40s. Its the Tuesday-Thursday time frame where we'll see a big drop in temperatures, leaving highs in the low 30s Tuesday, then low to mid 20s on Wednesday. Overnight lows may wind up back in single-digit territory Thursday morning.
