Slowly warming back up as the weekend approaches

Quite The Difference:

Talk about a weather whiplash? Monday delivered our fifth 80-degree day of the year, but that warmth was extremely short-lived. A cold front came crashing through Monday evening, knocking highs down to a much cooler 57 degrees on Tuesday. Punching that into the calculator, that is a 23-degree difference between afternoon highs.

Slowly Warming Up:

Temperatures won't rebound today, but we're heading in a better direction as the week goes on. With winds staying out of the northwest today, highs will remain on the cool side in the upper 50s. That slowly changes by Thursday and Friday as our wind direction takes on a more southwesterly tilt, allowing milder air creep back into the region. By the time we get into Friday afternoon, highs will be back in the low 60s, with low 70s on the table Saturday afternoon.

Hit-Or-Miss Chances:

Rain chances stay fairly limited through the next few days as well. While a couple of weak disturbances will pass through the region, moisture remains hard to come by in the wake of Monday's cold front.

That keeps any rain chance spotty, with a slim chance for a sprinkle or shower on Thursday, followed by a slightly better, but still isolated chance on Friday. As we move forward into the weekend, rain chances will creep back in Saturday night into Sunday as our next cold front pushes through. As of this moment, the highest rainfall totals are focused south of Rockford and south of I-80. Which may be a good thing considering the extremely wet April we had. Now, this cold front will also cool temperatures for Mother's Day and for early next week.
