After finally breaking out of the 50s yesterday, highs will climb another step today, pushing closer to 70 degrees this afternoon. It won't be perfectly quiet as a weak disturbance is schedule to slide in, providing us with a chance for an isolated shower. With that being said, most will stay dry this afternoon.
Mother's Day Weekend:
Looking ahead to Mother's Day weekend, there are some subtle changes on the way. Forecast models continue to trend earlier with Saturday cold front, which should move through during the late morning -early afternoon time frame.
We should see a bit more cloud cover push in as the cold front slides through, though rain chances overall have lowered thanks to the limited amount of moisture available. Now, this will leave afternoon highs to start the weekend around the 70-degree mark. Saturday will also feature a bit of a breeze, with wind gusts occasionally reaching 25 mph. Behind the frontal passage, cooler air spills in for Mother's Day itself, dialing temperatures back into the low 60s. A cooler, but still comfortable finish to the weekend. Overnight lows will wind up in the low 40s Saturday, then upper 30s Sunday.
Long Term Warmth:
The cooler air behind Saturday's cold front aims to linger into the start of next week. This will keep high temperatures in the 60s Monday through Wednesday, a step down from where the current work week will end. The longer-term outlook is more encouraging as the latest guidance from the Climate Prediction Center suggests we'll see a better shot of seeing warmer-than-average temperatures as we head into the second half of the month.
