UPDATE: Mixed Bag Winter Weather

Snow, sleet and freezing rain is beginning to move into the Stateline. Expect a treacherous Tuesday with the snow, sleet and freezing rain. Northern portions of the viewing area should see more snow, while southern parts of the area see more of a wintry mixture. Winds will continue to be blustery with gusts upwards of 30mph.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, Jo Daviess, Carroll, Stephenson, Rock, Green and Walworth Counties beginning at 9am this morning and going until noon Wednesday afternoon.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Whiteside, Lee, DeKalb and McHenry Counties beginning at 9am this morning and going until 9am Wednesday morning.
In the pink shaded counties, where the Winter Storm Warning is in effect, expect anywhere from 4-8" of snow and sleet. In addition, look for around a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation.

In the purple shaded counties, where the Winter Weather Advisory is in effect, expect anywhere from 1-4" of snow and sleet. In addition, look for around a tenth to two tenths of an inch of ice accumulation.

The chance for snow will increase as we go into the afternoon and evening hours. Snow, sleet and freezing rain will continue into early Wednesday before starting to tapper off.

When it is all said and done, accumulations of 4-8" of snow are possible across the warned counties. While 1-3" of snow are possible across the counties under the advisory because of the sleet and freezing rain mixing in.

It's also another chilly one! Temperatures are in the teens with wind chills in the single digits across the Stateline.

The only good news if you don't like the snow is that we are 20° to nearly 30° warmer than this time yesterday.
