Brief temperature dip with solar eclipse

Even though northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin were no in the path of totality for the 2024 solar eclipse, it was still a site to see across the Stateline. Our skies didn't go completely dark, but you may have noticed some loss in sunlight. Those who have solar panels also stated a drop in their total watts from the sun when the eclipse started.

But what may have been most noticeable was the chill in the air that occurred as temperatures briefly dropped between 1pm and 2pm. The Rockford Airport had a drop from 64 degrees at 1pm to 62 degrees at 2pm, while many others experienced a slightly larger dip in temperatures.

As the eclipse was nearing its end for the region temperatures did warm back up by 3pm, reaching the upper 60s by 5pm. Cloud cover will slowly work back in this evening ahead of a cold front. As the front passes a few sprinkles or light shower, or two, may occur. Winds will turn to the west Tuesday with highs back into the mid-60s.
