Skies dry out, but wind picks up Friday

Showers and isolated thunderstorms have become a little more widespread Thursday afternoon and evening as a small, but mighty, upper-level disturbance moves through the Midwest. This, combined with some instability, allowed a few isolated thunderstorms to develop. The intensity of the showers and storms will come to an end after sunset, but scattered showers will continue into the early overnight.

Mostly cloudy skies will greet us morning Friday, but we should see at least a partial return of sunshine for the afternoon. Low pressure will strengthen as it moves into the eastern Great Lakes Friday morning and afternoon. This will cause the pressure gradient to tighten up quite a bit around the low. The result locally will be an increasing wind from the northwest, gusting 35-40 mph Friday afternoon.

You'll likely notice an uptick in the wind Thursday night, increasing by sunrise Friday. The strong winds

will continue into the afternoon and early evening before relaxing quite a bit with the arrival of high-pressure Friday night. Temperatures on Friday will warm to the upper 50s and low 60s, but it will feel cooler thanks to the wind.
