Isolated thunderstorms possible Thursday afternoon

Cloud cover will continue to increase Wednesday evening ahead of low pressure currently bringing severe thunderstorms and heavy rain along the gulf coast. As the low shifts to northeast towards Indiana and Ohio, moisture will continue to increase. The track of the low has shifted further to the east over the last 24 hours. This means less of a chance for heavy rainfall locally as that threat has shifted closer towards northwest Indiana and east-central Illinois.

Temperatures Thursday are likely to warm close to 60 degrees, if not the low 60s, during the afternoon. The heating of the day, combined with an incoming upper-level disturbance and cold air aloft will help produce a few isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon. If we were to see storms they would develop after 1pm, lasting through the evening. Rain showers on the backside of the low will then occur overnight, into Friday morning. Rainfall totals will sit close to a quarter of an inch, with a few locally higher amounts under some of the heavier downpours from any thunderstorms.

Severe weather isn't expected Thursday but some of the stronger storm cells would be capable of producing small hail due to the colder air aloft. Northwest winds will increase Friday gusting to 35 mph as temperatures remain in the upper 50s, close to 60 degrees.
