After a few sunny and warm April days rain showers return with the arrival of low-pressure late Wednesday night and Thursday. The high temperature Monday afternoon warmed to 68 degrees in Rockford and only sits in the mid-50s as of 10pm. With a few clouds moving in ahead of a cold front overnight, lows will fall into the mid-40s. A mix of sun and clouds Tuesday afternoon will bring temperatures into the mid-60s, rising into the upper 60s Wednesday. As a deepening low-pressure system moves across Texas Wednesday afternoon it will quickly turn to the northeast, moving towards northwest Indiana Thursday. As it does, moisture will be drawn north with the low and move into north-central and northeast Illinois.
The overall track of the low will determine just how much rain we'll see Thursday, but a first look shows between 0.2-0.4 inches locally. The heaviest rain will occur just to the north of the low's track, which right now looks to be parts of northeast Illinois.
The incoming cloud cover and increasing northeast wind will cause temperatures to remain in the 50s Thursday. It'll be a brisk day, especially when compared to the 60s earlier in the week. Thursday's rain will move out with high pressure moving in Friday. Temperatures Friday will warm close to 60 degrees.
