The weather Tuesday afternoon has been nearly perfect with plenty of sunshine and temperatures warming into the 70s! Outside of a few clouds during the afternoon, skies have remained mostly sunny.
But a quick glance at visible satellite and our Skytrack cameras show clouds are quickly advancing in from the west. These are from thunderstorms that have formed ahead of a cold front and low-pressure system over the Midwest.
Ongoing severe weather will remain a threat to the west through the evening. For us, clouds will increase through sunset. As the thunderstorms move east, they will rapidly weaken. The earliest we would see the rain would be between 9pm/10pm, moving into our western counties before spreading east through Midnight.
While severe weather isn't expected a period of strong winds may occur as the weakening rain showers move through. An increasing low-level jet (concentrated area of strong winds just a few thousand feet above the surface) will develop and move through the Stateline around Midnight. With that, we could see a period of wind gusts approach, if not exceed, 50 mph for a few hours tonight. The expected time period for these strong winds will be roughly from Midnight, through 4am Wednesday.
Skies will quickly clear Wednesday morning with the return of drier air. Winds will remain strong from the west through early afternoon with gusts near 30 mph. Temperatures Wednesday will warm into the low 70s.
