Strong winds return ahead of weekend warm up

Thursday's rainfall was one of two hiccups that we had to overcome before we get into a multi-day stretch with 70° weather.

The second hiccup, Friday's gusty winds. Between the hours of 10AM-4PM, gusts could approach 40 mph. And with them being primarily out of the northwest, our temperatures will once again be restricted to the upper 50s, close to the 60° mark.

On the flip side, cloud cover early on will gradually give way to sun-filled skies by the afternoon.

Saturday starts off on a cooler note as temperatures aim to fall into the upper 30s. With a more southerly to southwesterly wind in place, expect highs to peak in the upper 60s, closer to 70°.

A ripple in the jet stream may bring a few more clouds Saturday night as well as a slim opportunity for a sprinkle or shower. Otherwise, sunshine reemerges in a big way Sunday with temperatures soaring back into the upper 70s.

If that brought a smile to your face, you'll be even happier to know that the 70° weather is set to stick around into next week. With this summer-like warmth does come sun on Monday, followed by the potential for a few strong to severe storms Tuesday.

The Storm Prediction Center continues to keep not only the entire Stateline but also the entire state of Illinois under a 15% severe risk. This is equivalent to a level 2 of 5 slight risk in the severe categories. For the time being, keep an eye on the forecast as it will likely change over the next few days!
