Winds this morning remain rather breezy out of the west, which has left temperatures on either side of the 10° mark and wind chills well below 0°. Despite there being a good amount of sun throughout our Monday, this cold breeze will leave afternoon highs well below average, in the upper teens. Wind chills will barely make it above zero.
Clouds increase somewhat overnight as a disturbance slides in from the northwest. This will have enough "ummph" with it to produce a round of scattered flurries and light snow showers after midnight, which may leave minor accumulations (Trace-.5") in areas along and south of highway 20.Clouds clear out following the departure of this disturbance, leaving us dry but frigidly cold for the start of our Tuesday. Expect temperatures to land in the lower single-digits, with wind chill values ending up as low as -15. Bundle, bundle up friends. Now, conditions don't look to improve much for Tuesday afternoon as winds remain breezy out of the northwest. This will leave afternoon highs once again in the upper teens with wind chills barely making it above 0°.
Thankfully, Tuesday night will be the last we see of single-digit chills this week as a significant warming trend gets underway. Winds on the backside of a departing high pressure system will turn to the south and southwest, allowing highs to end up above freezing Thursday and Friday. The last time we even spoke about seeing highs close to the 40° mark was the end of December. So it has been a while. Enjoy it because a cold front sliding through this weekend will put an end to this brief thaw.
