Slippery travel likely Tuesday morning

Road conditions have deteriorated rather quickly for some Stateline areas thanks to a quick-moving round of snow showers passing though. Snowfall rates in the more intense showers have been close to .5" per hour, leaving roads across Winnebago, Ogle, Lee, and Whiteside County completely snow-covered. If you plan to be out on the roads before or during the morning commute, use extra caution for slick spots.

Once this morning's disturbance passes, conditions turn cold rather quick. In a similar fashion to Monday, morning lows will be in the single digits, with wind chills values landing below 0°. Conditions remain frigid and breezy for the afternoon, with afternoon highs peaking in the upper teens. The one positive to today's forecast, we'll once again see lots of sun from start to finish. With high pressure sliding in overnight, expect a mostly clear sky into Wednesday, with temperatures falling into the single digits.

Wednesday morning will be the last we see of sub-zero wind chills this week as we undergo major warming before the weekend. Prior to this warm up, we do see another opportunity for scattered light snow with a cold front Wednesday evening into the first few hours of Thursday.

Any accumulations will be minor. Winds behind this cold front will turn to the northwest briefly before turning back to the southwest Friday. This will bring afternoon highs into the low 20s Wednesday, upper 30s on Thursday, then low 40s by Friday. Enjoy it while it lasts as a cold front Saturday will mark the end of this warm up, allowing another piece of Arctic air to roam in for early next week.
