Light snow tonight, period of bitter cold to follow

Radar may be looking quite colorful with snow as of 7PM, but there is a lot of dry air in the lowest 2-3km of the atmosphere preventing much from reaching the surface. Airport observations have yet to show any snow just yet, but a few flurries may be possible through 11PM before periods of light snow take over through the rest of the night.

Light snow arrives after 11PM with the steadiest band likely reaching the I-39 corridor near 3AM or so. Snow exits the region by mid-morning Sunday, with a slim chance for some drizzle during the afternoon as temperatures reach above freezing. Most in the Stateline will see less than 1" of new snow overnight, highest amounts likely across Southern Wisconsin.

Temperatures will hold steady or rise a few degrees through the night with light to steady snow showers possible after 11PM through the morning hours of Sunday. Sunday evening will feature a sharp decline in temperatures with strong Westerly winds pushing in behind the midday cold front.

That cold front will mark the start of our next Arctic blast with high temperatures down in the teens and lows in the single digits Monday and Tuesday. Wind chill values during this time may reach well below zero especially during both overnights. A short-lived period of milder air arrives Thursday and Friday before our next cool-down the following weekend.
