In total, the Rockford Airport picked up a whopping 1.2", which given how this winter has panned out is very similar to previous events. Snow chances drop for the time being, but the bitter chill returns as we jump into the second half of the week.
A cold front passed through right before the morning commute, turning winds to the northwest. Lows because of this will end up in the teens, with wind chills landing a few degrees below zero.
Cloud cover clears as the morning progresses, leaving us with a decent amount of afternoon sun. Despite the sunshine, temperatures remain cold as winds kick up, possibly gusting up to 25 mph at times. This will restrict afternoon highs to the upper teens while also limiting wind chills to the single digits.
Temperatures then fall into the single digits overnight, possibly below zero for a spot or two. Winds remain breezy, allowing wind chills to drop below zero during the morning commute hours. Friday afternoon will feature a slight improvement in the temperature department as winds shift to the southwest. This will land afternoon highs in the low 20s.
