Scattered light snow showers and flurries continue to fly across the region Wednesday evening causing issues with both visibility and slick roads. Temperatures in the single digits early in the morning allowed the first round of snow to quickly stick to roads, creating slippery driving conditions for the morning commute.
This second round of snow will continue through the rest of the evening, slowly coming to an end from west to east after Midnight. However, there will likely be a few snow flurries that last during the overnight as a cold front moves through. Some of the flurries could even linger through sunrise Thursday before dry air takes hold into the afternoon. Current road conditions from IDOT show nearly all roads in northern Illinois as being either partly or mostly snow/ice covered. This means that those slick road conditions will continue through the night.
Snowfall totals have ranged from between a few tenths of an inch to around an inch and a half. Additional snowfall totals will add up to another half an inch. Drier conditions can then be expected for Thursday afternoon.
