Brief gusty winds Thursday evening, Wintry weather returns Saturday

West winds will increase for a brief period Thursday evening as a surface frontal boundary moves through southern Wisconsin and northeast Illinois. Wind gusts reaching 40 mph will be likely, with locally higher gusts possible. The strongest of the winds will be felt to the north in Wisconsin where Wind Advisories are in effect. But some of those stronger winds may reach parts of north-central and northeast Illinois through Midnight.

Once the boundary passes wind speeds will ease some allowing temperatures to briefly dip into the teens overnight. Cloud cover will be on the increase Friday afternoon as temperatures warm close to 30 degrees.

Our next weather-maker is set to arrive Saturday and could bring another round of wintry weather to the Stateline. Similar to Wednesday's system, this too will have a bit of mixed precipitation. Snow is likely to fall in Wisconsin where some minor accumulations are possible. South of the state line a few light snow showers may try to mix in with some freezing drizzle, but overall precipitation amounts will remain on the lighter end.

Drier air aloft will work against any significant precipitation accumulations across the Stateline and could limit our overall snow chances but help aid in some of the freezing drizzle during the afternoon. Conditions are expected to dry out Saturday evening.
