Light snow chances quick to return over the weekend

We've only seen one side of winter and that has been the extreme cold. Snowfall has been lacking big-time to the point where each month of the winter season has come in well-below average.

Stateline snow-lovers, continue to look away or cover your ears as it seems like we will be missing out on the bulk of these upcoming winter systems.

Behind a weak cold front last night, winds have been left out of the northwest. That along with a mainly clear sky will result in a chilly start, with most locales beginning their day in the teens.

Winds then take another quick turn to the southwest, bringing temperatures back to seasonable-levels, near the 30° mark. We do see a bit of cloud cover move in ahead of Saturday's storm system, likely leaving us mostly cloudy into the night.

The bulk of the precipitation will remain to our north, though current forecast model data suggest that we may see a few scattered light snow on the southern extent of the precipitation shield. However, dry air may limit how much actually makes it to the ground locally and with temperatures sitting rather close to the 32° mark, freezing rain or drizzle may mix in during the afternoon. If you have any plans Saturday, be on the lookout for slick spots.

Any chance for precipitation will come to an end by Saturday evening, leaving behind a trace to 1" in most Stateline locales. Areas that hug the Illinois and Wisconsin border have a better shot at seeing totals closer to 1". Again, this is very similar to what we've seen so far this winter, unimpressive totals. Clouds hang tight into the end of the weekend, leaving afternoon highs in the upper 20s.
