Coldest air of this Arctic blast overhead Tuesday morning

Another day, another Cold Weather Advisory. Like Monday's, this one is for all of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin and runs until 12PM.

At their lowest point, wind chills are expected to fall between -25 to -30 degrees under partly cloudy skies. Frostbite can occur in under 30 minutes with these types of chills. Again, cover as much exposed skin or limit time outdoors. Areas west of the Mississippi River are under an Extreme Cold Warning as they could see even lower wind chill values.

With an extremely strong Arctic high pressure system sitting over southern Canada and the northern Great Plains, winds remain chilly out of the northwest. Because of this, wind chill values remain below zero this afternoon, with highs peaking in the upper single digits. We do see some sunshine, though clouds are expected to increase overnight.

As a weak disturbance pushes through the western Great Lakes, a slight chance a few flurries tags along with Wednesday's cloud cover. Afternoon highs barely touch double digit territory, with wind chills ever so slightly getting closer to the 0° mark. This high pressure is then shown pushing to our southeast by Thursday and Friday, allowing this warming trend to continue into the weekend. Expect afternoon highs to be in the upper teens both day, with 20s and 30s back in the forecast this weekend.
