Wednesday's snowfall added up quick for many in the Stateline, with some West of I-39 seeing 8-10 inches of snow! Our next round of snow will develop Friday evening in the form of a quick-hitting burst of snow. We will remain dry through the afternoon, but a quick onset of moderate to heavy snow may be possible as early as 5PM near the Mississippi river and 6PM near the I-39 corridor. This will be right in the window for any Valentine's Day evening plans, so be sure to allow extra time to reach your destinations!

This window of snow may last for 3-4 hours in any one location, with snowfall rates possibly near 1" per hour. This will limit visibility drastically and quickly coat untreated and treated surfaces. Those in Wisconsin may remain under this band of snow a bit longer, possibly allowing for a quick 3-4" to come down. Northern Illinois may see upwards of 2-3" within a few hours. Steady snow will exit near 9-10PM. Roads may remain snow-covered into the late evening, so continue to allow extra time to get home from those evening destinations!

The overnight window may feature a lull in precipitation, but this may include the potential for some freezing drizzle or light flurries. Light to steady snow then returns Saturday morning and this could last through the daytime hours Saturday. An additional couple inches of snow may be possible area-wide throughout Saturday.

Following the weekend snow, another round of Arctic air will push over the region, dropping temperatures into the single digits or lower for a few days. The coldest stretch will come early next week, with the weekend snowfall enhancing the cold air mass overhead. We will likely see 4 nights in a row of subzero lows, starting Sunday night. Wind chills during this time will likely remain below zero from Sunday evening into Wednesday.
